Volume Of Cement Sand And Aggregate In Concrete | Concrete Volume

After reading this article you will understand better how to calculate the quantity of cement, sand and aggregate in a plane concrete.

In the video, given below, calculations are based on the following dimensions:

Volume of concrete = 1m3
Here M15 concrete grade is selected with 1:2:4 ratios (cement : sand : aggregates)
Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3
It is known that 1m3 = 35.3147 ft3
Volume of concrete = length x breadth x height = 1x1x1 = 1m3. It is wet volume of concrete To convert it to dry volume, multiply wet volume with 1.54 i.e. 1 x 1.54 = 1.54 m3

Below is explanation of how 1.54 is derived :

Dry volume for concrete (cement + sand + aggregate) = 54% more than wet volume.
= 100/100 + 54/100 = 1 + .54 = 1.54
= 1.54 x wet volume

To find out the volume of cement in cumec, kg and bags, you’ll need the following data:

Dry volume of concrete = 1.54 m3
Concrete M15 = 1:2:4 = 1+2+4 = 7
Density of cement = 1440 kg/ m3
1 cement bag = 50 Kg
Apply this formula to find out the volume of cement in cumec (m3) = 1/7×1.54 = 0.22 m3

Apply this formula to find out the volume of cement in Kg = 1/7 x 1.54 x 1440 = 316.8 Kg.
Apply this formula to find out the volume of cement in bags = 316.8/50 = 6.336 bags.

Given below the data upon which the volume of cement in cubic feet (ft3) will be determined :-

Method 1 : 0.22 x 35.3147 = 7.76 ft3
Method 2 : 6.336 x 1.226 = 7.76 ft3

Find out the volume of 1 bag cement with formula :

Density of cement = 1440 kg/ m3
Mass of 1 cement bag = 50 kg
Volume of 1 bag cement = mass/density = 50/1440 = 0.0347 m3
In cubic feet (ft3) = 0.0347 x 35.3147 = 1.226 ft3
